Straightening
Straightening shafts, bars and long parts that bent during heat treatment back to the straightness and run-out tolerance on the drawing.

What is straightening?
Internal stresses and volume changes during heat treatment can make shafts, bars and long parts bend and run out. Straightening removes this distortion by applying controlled force and brings the part to the straightness and run-out tolerance on the drawing.
Which parts?
- Induction hardened or quenched and tempered shafts
- Gear and gearbox shafts after case hardening
- Transmission shafts and long bars
- Parts to be ground after heat treatment

Why together with heat treatment?
Straightening a hardened part needs care so that the hardened surface does not crack. Doing heat treatment and straightening in the same workshop lets the part move on to the next step (grinding, inspection) without being shipped.
