Inductor Manufacturing

Design and manufacture of water-cooled copper induction coils (inductors) shaped to your part and to the zone to be hardened.

Inductor Manufacturing

What is an inductor?

In induction heating, the inductor is a water-cooled copper coil placed around or inside the part, through which a high-frequency current flows. Heat is generated directly inside the part by the inductor’s magnetic field, so the shape of the inductor determines where in the part, and how deep, the heat forms.

What goes into the design?

Induction heating is most efficient when the workpiece can be placed inside the induction coil. If your process does not allow this, the coil can be placed inside the workpiece instead; this is how bores and inner diameters are hardened.

The size and shape of the water-cooled copper coil are designed to match your workpiece and to apply heat exactly where it is needed. The gap between the part and the coil, the width of the zone to be hardened, the frequency and the quench arrangement are considered together. Using the same inductor throughout series production of a part keeps results repeatable.
